Hadith 351

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that I asked: O Messenger of Allah! What if a person loves a people but does not have the strength to do deeds like theirs? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr! You will be with those whom you love." I said: I love Allah and His Messenger. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr! You will be with those whom you love (on the Day of Judgment)."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The meaning of this chapter and hadith is that if a person loves a righteous individual and strives to make his own character and actions like his, but is unable to perform deeds exactly like him, then by the blessing of that love, Allah Ta’ala will join him with the righteous. If someone truly loves the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), then on the Day of Resurrection he will be granted the company of the Noble Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and every person will attain closeness according to his love, while the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will be in the highest rank in Paradise.

➋ The requirement of true love for Allah Ta’ala and His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is that one adheres to the commands of Allah Ta’ala and His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), refrains from prohibitions, and also observes the prescribed Islamic etiquettes.

➌ In this hadith, there is glad tidings for the one who loves Allah Ta’ala, His Messenger, and the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum), and for the one who does not love them, there is nothing but failure and disappointment.

➍ It is possible that a person who loves Allah Ta’ala and His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) may not be able to perform such deeds as the Noble Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to perform, but he can never be one who commits major sins or violates the sacred limits.
