It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a cloak made of thick silk (being sold), so he brought it to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: (O Messenger of Allah!) Buy this cloak and wear it on Fridays and on the occasions of (receiving) delegations. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Only those wear this who have no share in the Hereafter." Then some cloaks came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he sent one cloak to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), one to Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), and one to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! You have sent this to me even though I have heard from you what you said about such cloaks. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Sell it or fulfill any of your needs with it."
