It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) cursed one of his slaves, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Bakr! Does a Siddiq also curse? Never, by the Lord of the Ka'bah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this two or three times. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) freed several of his slaves that day, then presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I will never curse again.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ From this, it is understood that one should immediately rebuke close friends when they do something that incurs Allah’s displeasure, especially when that action is contrary to their status.
➋ If a mistake or sin occurs, one should immediately repent from it. This pleases Allah and He forgives the sin. Likewise, charity and almsgiving can also assist in the acceptance of repentance.
➌ The connection to the chapter is as follows: it is possible that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu freed this very slave, and this is the more likely scenario. Therefore, if a person curses a slave, it is commendable to free him as expiation.
➍ If someone curses a riding animal or the like, he no longer has the right to ride it. A person cursed his she-camel during a journey, so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Remove its load and leave it, for it is accursed.” (Sahih Muslim, al-Birr wa al-Silah, Hadith: 2595)
