Hadith 318

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي ظَبْيَانَ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ‏:‏ مَا تَلاَعَنَ قَوْمٌ قَطُّ إِلاَّ حُقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ اللَّعْنَةُ‏.‏
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: When people curse each other, the curse definitely becomes binding upon them.

Benefits and Issues:
When a person utters a curse (la'nat), that curse ascends towards the heavens, but it is sent back. Then it goes to the one upon whom the curse was invoked. If that person is deserving of the curse, it befalls him; otherwise, the curse returns to the one who uttered it. Therefore, when people curse one another, then among them, one is certainly deemed worthy of it.
