It is narrated from Salim bin Abdullah that I never heard my father, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), curse anyone except one man. And Salim used to say that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) informed that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not befitting for a believer to be excessively cursing."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ To dishonor someone through condemnation, backbiting, etc., is called ta'n (reviling). It is possible that a believing servant may, in a moment of anger, revile someone, but this cannot become his habit. If this trait becomes apparent in someone, he should fear hypocrisy for himself, because this is such a major sin that it can make a person a hypocrite.
➋ Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar radi Allahu anhu was exemplary in following the Messenger. In every matter, he considered following the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to be an obligatory duty. He was extremely cautious regarding cursing and reviling people, to the extent that only once did this action occur from him in anger; otherwise, he never cursed or reviled anyone. This happened when he became angry with one of his servants and, in anger, said, "May Allah's curse be upon you." But even for this, he felt remorse, and in the narration of al-Bayhaqi and others, it is mentioned that he then freed that slave. (: al-Sahihah lil-Albani: 6/135, Hadith: 2636)
