It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Every good deed is charity, and it is also a good deed that you meet your brother with a cheerful face, and that you pour from your bucket into your brother's vessel, this too is a good deed."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The paths to goodness are numerous. People of spiritual taste choose these paths according to their own capacity. None of these paths should be considered insignificant, as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
(Sahih Muslim, al-Birr wa al-Silah, H: 2626)
“Do not consider any act of goodness to be insignificant.”
No matter how weak and helpless a person may be, it is still possible for him to smile; therefore, if someone cannot do any good for another, at the very least he should meet them with a smile and a cheerful face—this too will be counted as his act of goodness.
➋ Cheerfulness is a great blessing from Allah, and it is among the qualities of a pure soul. A cheerful person brings happiness to others when he meets them, whereas a bad-tempered person who is always frowning becomes a cause of distress for people, even if unintentionally.
➌ Pouring water from one’s own bucket into another’s bucket costs nothing, and the other Muslim becomes happy, and making a Muslim happy is a great act of goodness. This also means that fulfilling even a small need of someone in need is an act of goodness. A person standing at the water reservoir will obtain water himself when his turn comes, but if he receives water a few moments earlier, he will become happy, and the act of giving will be recorded as a good deed for the giver.
