It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Banu Salamah! Who is your chief?" We replied: Jad bin Qais, although we consider him to be miserly. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Is there any disease greater than miserliness? Rather, your chief is Amr bin Jamuh." And Amr bin Jamuh, in the time of ignorance, used to be the caretaker of their idols. Later, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would marry, he (Amr bin Jamuh) would arrange the wedding feast on his behalf.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ Among the Arabs, the system of leadership was prevalent. Every tribe had a leader and chief, whom the people obeyed, and the idea of disobeying his command was unimaginable, even if he gave a wrong order. However, they would select as their leader someone who possessed excellent qualities. A lowly and despicable person was never considered worthy of leadership, as is the case among us. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) asked the Banu Salamah: “Who is your chief?” They replied: “Jadd ibn Qays, but he has a weakness—he is miserly.” The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “This is not a minor weakness, but rather a very serious disease. With this, no person can be worthy of being called a chief, because expecting goodwill from a miser is meaningless.”
➋ He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Your true chief is ‘Amr ibn al-Jamuh.” He participated in the pledge of ‘Aqabah, later participated in Badr, and attained martyrdom at Uhud. This is because he was generous and open-handed, and among the fundamental qualities of a leader is that he be characterized by generosity and liberality.
➌ From this, it is understood that assistance can be sought from someone else in a wedding feast (walimah), and the entire walimah can also be carried out by another person.
