Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊ In the Shariah, performing praiseworthy deeds and abandoning blameworthy acts, exercising patience, not responding to evil with evil, showing mercy and compassion to those who wrong you by praying for their guidance, and meeting people with a cheerful demeanor—all of these constitute good character (husn al-akhlaq).

➋ Standing in prayer at night (qiyam al-layl) is not possible without striving against the self (mujahadah al-nafs). The one who stands in prayer at night wages jihad against his own soul, which carries great virtue. Similarly, the one who treats people with good conduct (husn al-suluk) strives against many people and endures their harms; thus, it is as if they are equal in rank.
