Hadith 281

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The dust that enters a servant's stomach in the way of Allah and the smoke of Hell can never be together; likewise, miserliness and faith can never be together in a servant's heart."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ The most severe form of miserliness is called "shuhh." According to some scholars, withholding wealth from others due to greed and covetousness is termed "shuhh." Another opinion is that miserliness (bukhl) pertains only to wealth, whereas "shuhh" applies to both wealth and other virtuous deeds; that is, refusing to assist someone financially or in any other way is called "shuhh." (al-Nihayah)
➋ Such miserliness that becomes an obstacle to fulfilling obligations or leads a person to oppress others is forbidden (haram), and with such miserliness, a person's faith cannot be complete. This vice cannot exist in a believer to the extent that he becomes so selfish.
➌ From this, the virtue of striving (jihad) in the path of Allah is also understood: the feet that become dusty in the path of Allah will not enter Hell.
