Hadith 280

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: Among women, I have not seen anyone more generous than Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her), and the manner of their generosity was different. Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to collect wealth, and when some wealth was accumulated with her, she would spend it, whereas Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) would not save anything for the next day (she would spend whatever she had).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Gathering wealth with the intention of giving charity (sadaqah) and gifts (atiyyah) is itself generosity of spirit. Because many people used to visit Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha and she would receive a great number of gifts from many people, she would collect the wealth, and when it reached an amount sufficient to give to everyone, she would spend it, so that by giving to some and not to others, no one would be hurt. And perhaps as for Hazrat Asma, she would spend whatever came to her immediately because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had given her special advice:
“Spend and do not count, otherwise Allah the Exalted will also count for you, and do not hoard and display miserliness, otherwise Allah the Exalted will also withhold from you.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
Therefore, she did not consider it appropriate to gather wealth even with the intention of charity. The very practice of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was also that he would not store up for the next day. (Mukhtasar al-Shama’il, by al-Albani, Hadith: 304)

➋ The opinions of the people of knowledge, if they do not conflict with the texts (nusus), are worthy of respect even if they differ. One may act upon any of them according to one’s ability and capacity. (Sharh Sahih al-Adab al-Mufrad)
