Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ The point is that if you had it available, you would certainly have bestowed it; if there was hope of obtaining it from somewhere, you would have made a promise; otherwise, you would have remained silent. However, you never said that you would not give. This demonstrates your generosity. It is narrated from Anas radi Allahu anhu that a man asked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to give him the flock of goats grazing between two mountains, and he gave it to him. That man went to his people and said: "O people, accept Islam! By Allah, Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gives in such a way that he does not fear poverty in the least." (Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2312)
➋ Every Muslim, and especially those who call towards the religion, should follow in the footsteps of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and emulate his character in generosity and openhandedness.
