Hadith 273

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلاَنَ، عَنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ السَّمَّانِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”إِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ لِأُتَمِّمَ صَالِحَ الأَخْلاقِ.“
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have been sent only to perfect good character."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The meaning is that whatever deficiency there was in the morals of the previous communities, or the good moral matters that people abandoned, I am the one who gathers all of them and completes them. It is as if all the good morals of the previous religions have been gathered in Islam, and this is a unique characteristic of Islam alone.
➋ By righteous morals are meant those matters which improve religion, worldly life, and the Hereafter; that is, righteous morals are such that a person fulfills the matters of religion properly and also manages worldly affairs with good conduct.
