Hadith 262

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: Blessings are taken for granted, ties of kinship are severed, and we have not seen any affection like the closeness of hearts.

Benefits and Issues:
The meaning of the statement of Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma) is that if a mutual relationship is based on some blessing or favor, then there is a possibility of its breaking, as people sometimes display ingratitude and fail to appreciate the one who has done them a favor. Similarly, kinship can also sometimes end due to mutual disagreement, discord, or distance, because kinship too is dependent on love. However, if there is closeness of the heart and mutual affection, then it is not dependent on any favor or kinship. Such closeness is what is commanded to be established with one another. And Allah knows best.
