It is narrated from Qais that I heard Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) say: Ever since I embraced Islam, whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he smiled at me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man will enter through this door who is among the best people of Yemen, and his face is extremely beautiful." Then Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) entered.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ This hadith has two parts: the first part, which relates to your (the Prophet’s) smiling when meeting others, is found in both Bukhari and Muslim, while the second part, which is in the form of your statement, is not agreed upon by both (i.e., not mutaffaq alayh). ➋ The initial state of laughing is called “tabassum” (smiling), and if happiness causes the teeth to show, it is called “dahik” (laughter), and if there is also sound, it is called “qahqahah” (loud laughter). The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would mostly smile (tabassum), and sometimes he would also laugh (dahik). ➌ This hadith is evidence of the noble character and humility of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and he also taught the ummah the same lesson: to meet others with a cheerful face. Explaining its virtue, he said: ((Tabassumuka fi wajhi akhika laka sadaqah)) “Your smiling at your brother is a charity for you.” ➍ This hadith establishes the virtue of Jarir radi Allahu anhu. He was extremely handsome. He himself narrates that when he approached Madinah Tayyibah, he made his mount kneel, then put on his cloak, and presented himself in your service. People kept raising their heads to look at him. I asked: “Has the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned me?” They said: “Yes, he has mentioned you very well.” He is called the Yusuf of this ummah.
