It is narrated from Ata bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) that I met Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both), so I requested him to tell me about those attributes of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which are mentioned in the Torah. He said: Certainly! By Allah, there are several attributes of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the Torah which are exactly as mentioned in the Qur'an (as it is in the Qur'an): «﴿يَاأَيُّهَاالنَّبِيُّإِنَّاأَرْسَلْنَاكَشَاهِدًاوَمُبَشِّرًاوَنَذِيرًا﴾»[الأحزاب: 45] "O Prophet! We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner." And sent you as a protector for the unlettered (from misguidance). You are My servant and My messenger, I have named you 'Mutawakkil' (the one who puts his trust in Allah). You are neither harsh in speech, nor hard-hearted, nor one who makes noise in the markets. And you do not repay evil with evil, rather you forgive and overlook. And Allah, the Exalted, will not cause you to die until He straightens the crooked nation through you, so that they declare 'La ilaha illallah' (there is no god but Allah). And through you, Allah will open blind eyes, deaf ears, and closed hearts.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ The relevance of the hadith to the chapter is as follows: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was neither harsh-tongued nor of a severe temperament, and forgiveness and forbearance were also among his distinguishing characteristics. Therefore, a person possessing such qualities is certainly of good character and cheerful. The Ummah is also taught to adopt such excellent manners.
➋ In the Bible and other ancient religious scriptures, much has been mentioned regarding the advent and characteristics of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), which for years has been unsuccessfully attempted to be erased and altered. Yet, even today, his mention can be seen in various ways, which is a proof of his truthfulness. In fact, the Qur’an has clearly stated regarding the People of the Book that they recognize the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as they recognize their own sons, meaning just as they are certain about their own children, they are likewise certain about the truth of the Messenger of Allah’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) prophethood.
➌ The meaning of your attribute “Shahid” is that you are a witness to the oneness of Allah, and regarding your Ummah, that you conveyed the religion to them, and regarding the previous prophets (alayhim as-salam), that they too conveyed the message.
➍ “Mubashshir” means the bringer of glad tidings of reward and recompense to the believers, and “Nadhir” refers to the one who warns the disbelievers of punishment, and you came as a mercy for the unlettered (ummiyyin).
➎ An “Ummi” is called so because he remains in the state in which his mother gave birth to him, that is, he has not learned reading and writing, meaning he is upon his original innate disposition.
➏ The meaning of “He will not cause you to die until…” is that until the religion becomes dominant and people illuminate their hearts and find coolness for their eyes. And indeed, this is what happened: when the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) departed from this world, Islam had spread throughout the Arabian Peninsula, and very soon after, it spread to the corners of the world, so that today there is no region in the world unfamiliar with it.
