Hadith 245

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Teach the people, deal with them gently and do not make things difficult. When any one of you becomes angry, he should remain silent."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ The meaning of the statement of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is that you should teach people the religious rulings and essential matters, because ignorance tarnishes a person’s character. And in this matter, strive to make things easy for people and do not impose undue hardship, nor display narrow-mindedness in those issues during teaching where there is scope for flexibility. Another meaning is that in general dealings and interactions, create ease for people, because whoever creates ease for Muslims in this world and tries to remove their difficulties, Allah, the Exalted, will remove his anxieties on the Day of Resurrection.

➋ Anger is from Shaytan. Due to the acceleration of blood flow, Shaytan takes advantage of this state, and a person may commit such an act that later becomes a cause of regret. Therefore, the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has provided a solution for controlling anger: that a person should remain silent so that the urge for revenge may subside. In another hadith, at the time of anger, he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) instructed to recite: “A‘udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim” (I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan).
