Hadith 242

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "My mount has become unable to walk, contrary to its usual habit, so please provide me with a mount." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I do not have a mount, but go to such-and-such a person, perhaps he will give you a mount." So he went to that person, and he gave him a mount. He came back and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Whoever guides to a good deed, for him is a reward equal to that of the one who does it."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ This hadith shows that a traveler may ask someone for something necessary during the journey, and this does not fall under the prohibited type of begging, provided that it is not his habit.
➋ If a person does not have the ability to give, he may excuse himself from the one asking; however, his tone should be gentle and the one asking should not be rebuked.
➌ If a person is unable to do something himself, then guiding the one asking to another person who can fulfill his need, or interceding with someone on his behalf, is just like having done the act himself. In another hadith, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
((Intercede, you will be rewarded.))
➍ This hadith is among the comprehensive statements. Its meaning is that the one who directs towards any good deed receives the same reward as the one who performs the action.
