Hadith 237

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) to climb a tree and bring something (such as a miswak). The companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) began to laugh when they saw the thin shins of Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Why are you laughing? Surely, Abdullah's leg will be heavier on the scale (on the Day of Resurrection) than the mountain of Uhud."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) went out with his companions to the fields and similar places, and he instructed Ibn Mas'ud (radi Allahu anhu) to bring down a miswak and other things. Therefore, going out in this manner with friends and companions is not contrary to etiquette; rather, it is permissible.

➋ The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had a special affection for Ibn Mas'ud (radi Allahu anhu), which is why he specifically mentioned his name when instructing him to render service. From this, the merit and virtue of Ibn Mas'ud (radi Allahu anhu) are understood.

➌ From this, it is understood that on the Day of Resurrection, along with the weighing of deeds, the person himself will also be weighed, and his weight will be according to his faith (iman).
