It is narrated from Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him), he says: I came to Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and he was my friend. I said to him: Why don't you take us to the date orchard? So he went along with me, and he had a sheet over him.

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: ➊ This narration is concise; its detail is as follows: Abu Salamah rahimahullah said, "Let us go out to the fields and discuss (religious) matters." Then Abu Salamah asked about the i'tikaf (spiritual retreat) of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, so Abu Sa'id al-Khudri radi Allahu anhu informed him that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam first performed i'tikaf during the first ten days of Ramadan, then during the middle ten days, and then it was made known to him that Laylat al-Qadr is in the last ten nights, so he performed i'tikaf in the last ten days. (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Adhan, Hadith: 813) ➋ From this, it is understood that the mutual conversations and discussions of the righteous predecessors (salaf salihin) were also about religion. They did not waste their time in frivolities. ➌ From this, it is understood that it is permissible to go to fields and properties with friends and companions.
