It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Charity is due from every Muslim (every day)." He asked: What if he does not find (anything to give)? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "He should work with his hands, benefit himself from it, and also give charity." He asked: What if he is not able to do that or cannot do so? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "He should help the one who is helpless and needy." He asked: What if he is unable to do even that? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "He should enjoin good." He submitted: What if he cannot do even that? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "He should refrain from harming people; this too is charity for him."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ In some narrations, it is mentioned that there is charity (sadaqah) due on every joint, and if a person performs two units (rak‘ah) of prayer after sunrise, this fulfills the charity. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Salah, Hadith: 1286)
However, whoever has the ability to give charity from wealth should do so, and if he does not have the ability, then saying "Subhan Allah" is also charity, and helping someone is also charity; that is, all good deeds are considered as charity. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Jihad, Hadith: 2891)

➋ To work hard is thousands of times better than extending the hand to ask (beg), and a person should certainly give charity and alms from his own earnings, even if he is a laborer.

➌ Helping the compelled and helpless, and rekindling an extinguished stove, is a great virtue, as its details have already been mentioned in the previous benefits. In the present era, many people, having become hopeless with life, are committing suicide; in such circumstances, it is necessary that the wealthy include them in their wealth and benefit them from the wealth Allah has given. If this is not possible, then at least adopt any path of goodness, otherwise, at the very least, refrain from harming people, lest one ends up bearing the sins of others and is cast into Hell.
