Benefits and Issues:
➊ Good deeds and good character are called "ma'ruf" (recognized good), and this is derived from "urf" (custom), meaning that which a person knows by his original nature and is familiar with. After the creation of Adam, before the appearance of sins, the actions and behaviors with which man was acquainted and which were his innate disposition are "ma'ruf." And whatever deviates from this, and with which man is not naturally familiar, is "munkar" (reprehensible). Every action or character trait that is considered disliked (makruh) or forbidden (haram) in Allah's Shari'ah, man, by his original nature, is not familiar with it. In other words, that which was not recognized as good in the ancient custom and came into existence as a result of disobedience is called "munkar."
➋ The meaning of the hadith is that those people who do good deeds in the world, have a good reputation, and whose character and actions are good in this world, will also be good in the Hereafter, as they will be rewarded for their goodness. In other words, if a person is granted the ability to do good deeds in this world, it is evidence that on the Day of Judgment he will also be counted among the good people. And those who are evil-doers and bad in this world, and whose reputation is also bad, will also be counted among the evil ones on the Day of Judgment. In one narration, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
((Ahl al-Jannah are those about whom Allah fills his ears with the praise of people for good while he hears it, and Ahl al-Nar are those about whom Allah fills his ears with the blame of people for evil while he hears it.)) (Al-Sahihah lil-Albani, Hadith: 1740)
"Ahl al-Jannah (the people of Paradise) are those who themselves hear good remarks from people about them, and Ahl al-Nar (the people of Hellfire) are those who themselves hear bad remarks from people about them."
That is, good reputation and the ability to do good in this world are signs of the people of Paradise, and conversely, a bad reputation and a sinful life are evidence that the end will also be bad.
