Hadith 210

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "None of you should ever say: 'My slave (male) and my slave-girl (female),' and a slave should never say: 'My lord and my lady.' The owner should call the slave and slave-girl 'my young man' and 'my young woman,' and the slave should call the owner 'my master.' All of you are slaves of Allah, and the Lord is Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."

Benefits and Issues:
The meaning of "Rabb" is the Nurturer and Sustainer, and this attribute in reality is found only in the Essence of Allah Ta'ala; therefore, only He deserves to be called "Rabb." A slave should not address his master with these words; however, he may call him "Sayyidi" (my master), "my lord," or "my owner," because here "sayadah" (mastery) means authority, governance, and status, which Allah Ta'ala has granted him.
