Hadith 208

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a Muslim slave fulfills the right of his master, he will have a double reward." By the One in Whose hand is the life of Abu Hurairah! If it were not for striving in the way of Allah, performing Hajj, and serving my mother, I would have preferred to die in the state of slavery.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ The meaning of a Muslim slave is that he will, in any case, fulfill the rights of Allah Ta’ala, and along with that, if he also fulfills the rights of his master by obeying him—as has been mentioned in previous ahadith.

➋ In slavery, in any case, the owner of a person’s time is someone else; therefore, a person cannot even perform jihad in the path of Allah, because his master will require his service. Similarly, performing Hajj to the House of Allah is also not possible in slavery, and when one is himself the property of another and bound for twenty-four hours, then serving one’s parents—which is a very great virtue—is also not possible.

➌ Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu mentioned only his mother in reference to himself because his mother was alive, and he was extremely devoted in serving her and treated her with great kindness.
