Hadith 206

Narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Each of you is a guardian and each of you will be questioned about his responsibility. So, the ruler who is responsible for the people will be questioned about his subjects, and a man is a guardian over the members of his household and will be questioned about his responsibility, and a servant is a guardian over his master's wealth and will be questioned about it. Beware! All of you are guardians and all of you will be questioned about your responsibilities."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
In the workshop of the world, every person is certainly responsible for some task or another, even a slave who does not even own himself is not free from responsibility, because his master's property is entrusted to him, over which he exercises authority. If he commits treachery in it, he too will certainly be questioned. Then, whatever position Allah, the Exalted, has given to someone, he will definitely be questioned about it—what did you do with this trust? The king will be asked about his subjects, and every individual will be asked about his household. Merely providing necessities for the family does not absolve a person of responsibility. Making them complete human beings and Muslims is also the responsibility of the head of the household, and negligence in this can become a cause of regret and remorse on the Day of Resurrection. Similarly, among other family members, especially the wife is responsible for maintaining the proper environment of the husband's home and for the upbringing of the children.
