Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ "Rida" (pleasure) means that their opinion should be respected and that one should not oppose them in worldly matters; rather, it is preferable that even a trace of displeasure should not arise in the heart.
➋ Allah the Exalted has made His own pleasure conditional upon the pleasure of the father so that, after Allah’s command, the father’s command is given the highest precedence. Although the mother is not mentioned explicitly, she is also included in this.
➌ In some hadiths regarding showing kindness (ihsan), the mother is given precedence, as will be mentioned in Hadith number 5, and in the matter of pleasure, the father is mentioned. Perhaps this is because, generally, the father is more involved in matters and there is a greater likelihood of disobeying him, hence the father is mentioned. Since the mother does not usually interfere as much in a person’s affairs, she is given precedence in showing kindness and goodness.
➍ A believing servant always strives that his true Lord is not displeased with him. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) prescribed the remedy for avoiding Allah’s displeasure: do not anger the father, and Allah will not be angry.
➎ From this hadith, it is established that Allah the Exalted becomes angry and pleased, and these are both attributes of Allah in which the Ahl al-Hadith and Ahl al-Sunnah have faith. These attributes are not to be compared to the anger and pleasure of the creation; rather, these attributes are affirmed for Allah as befits His majesty (bi-la kayf).
➏ This hadith is also authentically established in a marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet) form, as Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has mentioned in Silsilat al-Sahihah, H: 516.
