Hadith 165

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When a slave steals, then sell him, even if he is sold for one nash (twenty dirhams)." Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a nash is twenty dirhams, a nawāh is five dirhams, and an uqiyyah is forty dirhams.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The point is that a slave of bad character should be sold, even if only for a small price. However, it is necessary to inform the one to whom he is being sold. Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has declared this narration to be weak, although some researchers have considered its chain of transmission to be hasan (good).
