It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the illness of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became severe, he said: "O Ali! Bring me a piece of paper so that I may write something by which my Ummah will be saved from going astray." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I feared that before I could bring the paper, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) might pass away, so I said: I will remember it myself. At that time, the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) head was between my arms. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised regarding prayer, zakat, and treating slaves well, and while saying this, he passed away. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed to say «لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُوْلُهُ» and said: "Whoever bears witness to both of these, the fire of Hell is forbidden for him."

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
This narration is weak in its chain of transmission, therefore it is not suitable as evidence. However, the command to treat slaves with kindness is established from other authentic (sahih) ahadith. Similarly, the virtue of the two testimonies (shahadatayn) is also mentioned in other ahadith.
There is some difference in wording. Most likely, for this reason, the translator has also not translated it. See its explanation in “Fadl Allah al-Samad.”
