Hadith 150

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’sa’ah bin Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he met Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), who at that time had a waterskin hanging under his arm. I asked: “Abu Dharr! How many children do you have?” He replied: “Shall I narrate to you a hadith?” I said: “Why not, certainly.” He said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Any Muslim whose three children die before reaching the age of puberty, Allah will surely admit him to Paradise due to His mercy and compassion for those children. And any Muslim who frees a Muslim (slave), Allah will free each of his limbs from the Fire in exchange for each limb (of the slave).’”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ From this, it is understood that one should narrate hadiths to friends and companions even without their request, so that the process of admonition and reminder continues.
➋ From this, it is understood that in the previous hadiths where there was an absolute mention of three or two children, it is specific: this virtue is in the case when the children passed away before reaching maturity (i.e., as minors).
➌ Although freeing a disbelieving slave is also a source of reward, freedom from Hellfire is conditional upon freeing a Muslim slave. From this, it is understood that freeing a slave who is complete in limbs is superior to freeing a slave who is deficient in limbs.
