Shumaisa ‘Atkiyyah says: One day, the topic of disciplining and training an orphan was mentioned in the presence of Sayyidah ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), so she said: I discipline an orphan for the sake of training him in such a way that he lies down on the ground.

Benefits and Issues: To discipline children by hitting them is by no means contrary to mercy and compassion. Love does not mean that children should be devoid of manners and respect, or that bad habits should become ingrained in them. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam instructed regarding children that if they reach the age of ten and do not perform prayer (salah), then punish them. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 495)
It is also permissible to hit an orphan just as one would their own children. The meaning of "yanbasit" is that I do not accept everything he says; rather, I also hit him to the extent that he lies down on the ground, just as it is the habit of children that if their words are not accepted, they do so.
It should be remembered that this applies as long as the children are young. Near the age of puberty or after reaching puberty, excessive hitting can also cause children to become rebellious.
