It is narrated from Abu Bakr bin Hafs (may Allah have mercy on him) that whenever Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) ate food, there was always an orphan present at his dining mat.

Benefits and Issues:
From this narration, one can gauge the God-consciousness of Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma, in that he took such great care of orphans. The relevance of this narration to the chapter is as follows: if a person is unable to fully sponsor an orphan, then even by sincerely supporting an orphan for a day or two—such as by feeding him, etc.—one can hope for this reward. And the special virtue of feeding orphans is also mentioned in the Noble Qur’an. ( )
