Hadith 1314

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Modesty is part of faith, and the person of faith will be in Paradise. Foul language is from harshness, and the harsh person will be in Hell."

Benefits and Issues:
A person’s success in this world and the Hereafter is greatly influenced by the tongue. On one occasion, Sayyiduna Mu’adh radi Allahu anhu asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Will we also be held accountable for what we say with our tongues?” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: “May your mother lose you! Are people not thrown on their faces into Hellfire except as a result of what their tongues have harvested?” Therefore, one should refrain from obscene speech and foul language in order to be saved from Hellfire.
