Hadith 1313

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، قَالَ‏:‏ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ‏:‏ إِنَّ الْحَيَاءَ وَالإِيمَانَ قُرِنَا جَمِيعًا، فَإِذَا رُفِعَ أَحَدُهُمَا رُفِعَ الآخَرُ‏.‏
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: Indeed, modesty and faith are joined together, so when one is taken away, the other is also taken away.

Benefits and Issues:
Haya (modesty/shyness) is the name for the hesitation in committing an ugly statement or action. And this is a characteristic specific only to humans. A person possessing haya can never be a transgressor (fasiq).
