Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: The manner of conversation of the righteous predecessors (salaf salihin) was such that when they spoke in a gathering, they would not give special importance or attention to any one individual, but would speak generally. This is because giving special attention to someone may cause jealousy to arise in the hearts of others, and even if admonishment is intended, it is better to speak in a general manner so that the person does not feel humiliated in front of the whole gathering. This was also the manner of conversation of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam): when he needed to admonish, he would do so in a general way, saying, "What is the matter with the people that they do such and such," and so on.
