بَابُ الأَدَبِ وَإِخْرَاجِ الَّذِينَ يَلْعَبُونَ بِالنَّرْدِ وَأَهْلِ الْبَاطِلِDisciplining and expelling dice players and wrongdoers
Hadith 1276
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ الْحَنَفِيِّ هُوَ الطَّنَافِسِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي يَعْلَى أَبُو مُرَّةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ فِي الَّذِي يَلْعَبُ بِالنَّرْدِ قِمَارًا: كَالَّذِي يَأْكُلُ لَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيرِ، وَالَّذِي يَلْعَبُ بِهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ الْقِمَارِ كَالَّذِي يَغْمِسُ يَدَهُ فِي دَمِ خِنْزِيرٍ، وَالَّذِي يَجْلِسُ عِنْدَهَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا كَالَّذِي يَنْظُرُ إِلَى لَحْمِ الْخِنْزِيرِ.
It is narrated from Ya'la bin Murrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that regarding the one who gambles with chess, I heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: That person is like one who eats the flesh of a pig, and whoever plays without gambling is like one who dips his hand in the blood of a pig, and whoever sits by and watches is like one who looks at the flesh of a pig.

The chain of narration of this report is weak; in it, the narrator Ya'la ibn Murrah is unknown (majhool). However, a similar statement is authentically established as the saying of Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar radi Allahu anhuma, as has been mentioned in the previous pages and will also come ahead from Ibn 'Amr.
