Hadith 1275

It is narrated from Kulthum bin Jabr (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) addressed us in a sermon and said: O people of Makkah! I have come to know about some people of the Quraysh who play a game called Nardashir, and it is played with the left hand. The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: "Indeed, wine and gambling are filthy, satanic deeds." [سورہ المائدہ: 90] And I swear by Allah, if a person is brought to me who has played with chess, I will pull out his "jounday" and skin him, and I will give his belongings to the one who brings him.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ It is permissible, rather necessary, for the head of the household, a teacher, or the ruler of the time to discipline those who engage in frivolities by giving them a strict punishment. Such instruments of amusement and play should be broken. In the present era, video games, billiards, etc., fall into this same category. There, gambling, alcohol, etc., are widespread. Along with the waste of time, morality is also being destroyed. Furthermore, the market of obscenity that is thriving in nightclubs under the guise of games and sports must also be stopped.
➋ Elderly women should keep a close watch inside the home and protect the girls from such frivolities.
