It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Spread the greeting of peace, you will remain safe; useless play and showing off are bad things.” Abu Mu’awiyah says: By “ashara” is meant useless play and amusement.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Singing and playing music is a satanic act. It causes a person to become heedless, and those who engage in such activities are people who have deviated from the path of Allah and are deprived even of listening to the Qur’an. For such people, there is a warning of a painful punishment.
➋ Those who call music the “food of the soul” and consider it a means of inner satisfaction are devils in human form. This is because the souls of the believers find tranquility in the remembrance of Allah and the Qur’an.
➌ Singing and playing music opens the door to immorality; it arouses passions, and it is these songs that lead people towards indecency.
