It is narrated from Husayn bin Mus'ab, may Allah have mercy on him, that a man asked Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him: We gamble by betting on two pigeons, and we dislike appointing a third person as a mediator among us, fearing that the mediator might take everything. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: This is the work of children; you will soon abandon it (when you realize that it is a sin).
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The chain of narration of this report is weak. In it, the narrator Umar ibn Hamzah is weak and Husayn ibn Mus'ab is unknown (majhool). However, placing a wager on pigeon flying is gambling, which is haram (forbidden).
