It is narrated from Rabi'ah bin Abdullah bin Hudair (may Allah have mercy on him) that two men gambled on two roosters during the time of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Consequently, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered the roosters to be killed. Then an Ansari man said: "Are you killing a creature that glorifies Allah?" Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) abandoned the intention to kill the roosters.
