حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنَا عَجُوزٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ جَدَّةُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ غُرَابٍ قَالَتْ: حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ الْمُهَاجِرِ قَالَتْ: سُبِيتُ فِي جَوَارِي مِنَ الرُّومِ، فَعَرَضَ عَلَيْنَا عُثْمَانُ الإِسْلاَمَ، فَلَمْ يُسْلِمْ مِنَّا غَيْرِي وَغَيْرُ أُخْرَى، فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ: اذْهَبُوا فَاخْفِضُوهُمَا، وَطَهِّرُوهُمَا.
It is narrated from Umm Muhajir, may Allah have mercy on her, that I came as a captive among the slave women of Rome. Then Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, invited us to Islam, but none accepted Islam except me and another woman. Then Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Go, circumcise them, and purify them.

The chain of narration of this report is weak. However, among the Arabs, it was customary for women to undergo circumcision, in which the protruding, crest-like flesh on the private part would be cut.
