Hadith 1244

أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”اخْتَتَنَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ ثَمَانِينَ سَنَةً، وَاخْتَتَنَ بِالْقَدُومِ“، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ: يَعْنِي مَوْضِعًا.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) performed circumcision at the age of eighty years. He circumcised himself at the place called Qadoom." Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: By Qadoom, a place is meant, not an adze (a tool).

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Circumcision is among the natural practices (fitrah). And these practices hold the status of a command, therefore circumcision is obligatory (fard), and whoever does not perform it will be considered sinful and guilty.
➋ There is no fixed age for performing circumcision; however, it is necessary to do it before reaching puberty. Nevertheless, if someone accepts Islam at an older age, then circumcision will be obligatory for him at that age.
