Umar bin Ali bin Husayn (may Allah have mercy on him) reports mursal from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "After the night has settled, reduce going out, because there are many creatures of Allah that He lets loose (at night). If you hear the barking of dogs or the braying of donkeys, seek refuge with Allah from Satan."

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: These narrations have already been mentioned earlier. However, there is an addition in them that upon hearing a dog bark or a donkey bray at night, one should recite "A'udhu billah" (I seek refuge with Allah). Also, when evening approaches, children should be kept inside the house, and when people have gone to sleep and silence prevails, then even adults should avoid going outside without necessity.
