It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When the night becomes calm, reduce going out from your homes, because Allah Almighty has many creatures which He lets loose on the earth (at night). Whoever hears the barking of a dog or the braying of a donkey should seek refuge with Allah Almighty from the evil of the accursed Satan, because what they see, you do not see."

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: The donkey or dog makes a sound upon seeing a shaytan, as is explicitly mentioned in the ahadith. A Muslim is always at risk of harm and whisperings from shaytan, therefore he should immediately seek refuge with Allah. Furthermore, one should not leave the house at night without necessity, because there is a risk of harm from harmful animals and the like.
