Hadith 1213

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would come to his bed, he would lie down on his right side, then recite: «اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ ...... » “O Allah! I have submitted my soul to You, I have turned my face towards You, I have entrusted my affairs to You, and I have relied upon You in all my matters, hoping in You and fearing You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except with You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever recites these words and then dies that night, dies upon the natural disposition (fitrah).”

Benefits and Issues:
The repeated affirmation of one’s Islam and loyalty is an expression of the servant’s neediness and love for the Lord, as the servant conveys that, O Lord, I have nothing besides You. My living and my dying are for You, and all my affairs are entrusted to You.
