Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When one of you goes to lie down on his bed, he should take the edge of his waist-wrapper and dust off his bed with it, for he does not know what may have come onto it after him. Then he should lie down on his right side and recite this supplication: 'In Your name, O Allah, I lay down my side. So if You take my soul, have mercy on it, and if You let it go, protect it as You protect Your righteous servants.' Or he said: 'As You protect Your righteous slaves.'"

Benefits and Issues:
From this hadith, it is understood that before sleeping at night, one should dust off the bed so that no harmful creature is present on it. Then, entrusting oneself to Allah Ta'ala, one should sleep while reciting the prescribed supplications (adhkar). At night, Allah Ta'ala will protect from harmful things.
