Hadith 1205

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) intended to sleep, he would say: "With Your name, O Allah, I die and I live." And when he would wake up from sleep, he would say: "All praise is for Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Sleep is the sister of death. In it as well, the connection of the soul (ruh) with the body is suspended, and the sleeper is counted among the dead. Therefore, upon the safe and sound return of the soul, one should express gratitude to Allah.
➋ The meaning of remembering Allah (dhikr) at the time of sleep is that the servant is prepared to go to his Lord, because it is entirely possible that the soul may not return.
