Hadith 12

Abu Murrah, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Aqeel (may Allah be pleased with him), says that Marwan used to appoint Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy, and he used to live in Dhul-Hulaifah, and his mother lived in one house, and he himself lived in another house. Abu Murrah says that whenever Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to go somewhere, he would stand at the door of his mother’s (house) and say: O my dear mother! Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah. Then his mother would reply: And peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah. He (Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him) would say: May Allah have mercy on you as you raised me in my childhood. In response, she would say: May Allah have mercy on you as you have treated me kindly in my old age. And when he returned, he would do the same.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ This hadith is weak. Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has declared it weak due to the confusion (ikhtilat) of Sa‘id ibn Abi Hilal. However, meeting with elders and seeking their prayers before embarking on an important mission is a commendable act, as Muhammad ibn Maslamah radi Allahu anhu and his companions presented themselves before the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam before going to kill Ka‘b ibn al-Ashraf, and he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave them his supplication and then sent them off.
