Hadith 118

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The Hour will not be established until a man kills his neighbor, his brother, and his father."

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊ In this hadith, the evil neighbor is mentioned as a sign of the Day of Judgment, indicating that near the end times such conditions will arise that people will forget the rights of neighbors, to the extent that the neighbor, who is supposed to be the protector of another neighbor, will himself kill his neighbor.

➋ In this hadith, the virtue of the neighbor and his great right is described in such a way that the neighbor is mentioned first, followed by the brother and the father. It is as if the sanctity of the neighbor is like that of a brother and a father.

➌ From the order of “neighbor, brother, and father,” it is also understood that first, people will become so audacious regarding their neighbors that they will kill them; then this insensitivity will increase to such an extent that even the regard for the dear relationship of a brother will disappear, and ultimately, the situation will reach the point where people, for worldly or other interests, will not hesitate to kill even their own parents.

➍ The Day of Judgment will be established upon the worst of people. Righteousness will come to an end, and there will remain no one who mentions the name of Allah, so the major Day of Judgment (Qiyamah Kubra) will be established. However, among the other signs of its nearness is that Allah’s disobedience will become open, corruption will spread, killing and bloodshed will become widespread, and the sanctities of Allah will be violated without restraint. In the present era, these conditions have indeed come to pass. Every day, newspapers are filled with such reports: a brother has killed his brother, a son has killed his father, entire families of neighbors have been murdered. (A‘adhana Allahu minhu – May Allah protect us from it)
