Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊ For happiness and good fortune in this world, several things are required, among which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) mentioned three foremost things: If the house is cramped, then it is not possible to maintain proper privacy, which is extremely necessary for a Muslim, and a person becomes afflicted with various physical and psychological illnesses. Even if the house is spacious, but the neighbor does not possess good character, life still becomes miserable because one has to interact with them constantly. If the means of transport is comfortable, a person can perform acts of obedience in the best manner, and likewise, it becomes easier to maintain ties of kinship with relatives.

➋ In one narration, in addition to the aforementioned three things, a fourth thing is also mentioned, and that is a righteous wife. Thus, if a Muslim possesses these four things in this world, he is undoubtedly fortunate. Even if one has all the blessings of the world, but the neighbor is bad, the wife is bad, the house is cramped, and the means of transport is not proper, then life becomes unbearable.

➌ To a large extent, a person’s goodness or badness is influenced by the social environment. If a person is mentally at peace and his company is with righteous people, then an inclination towards goodness is created, and the chances of falling into evil are greatly reduced.

➍ A spacious house and a good means of transport are undoubtedly a person’s good fortune, but this does not mean that millions or billions of rupees should be wasted in the dust and wealth squandered on ever-new vehicles. This is not good fortune, but rather misfortune, that a person, by indulging in such futile pursuits, ruins his Hereafter.

In one narration, it is stated that a Muslim receives reward for spending wealth on any good deed, except for the wealth that he spends on the dust. (Sunan Ibn Majah, Kitab al-Zuhd, Hadith: 4163)
