Hadith 1158

It is narrated from Malik bin Zubayd, may Allah have mercy on him, that we passed by the place of Rabdhah near Sayyiduna Abu Dharr, may Allah be pleased with him, so he asked: Where have you come from? We said: We are coming from Makkah or Bayt al-Atiq. He said: Was that your only purpose? We said: Yes. He said: Was there no other purpose of trade or buying and selling along with it? We said: No. He said: Now start your deeds afresh (Allah has forgiven all previous sins).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The chain of narration of this report is weak; in it, the narrator Malik bin Zubaid is unknown (majhool). However, there is no harm in asking someone, "Where have you come from?" Nevertheless, it is not correct to pry into someone’s affairs.
