It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a person should make someone get up from his place and then sit there himself. If someone would get up from his place for Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he would not sit there.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: To remove someone and sit in their place is an infringement upon the rights of others; therefore, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) forbade doing so and instead commanded that space should be made in gatherings. Even if someone voluntarily offers their place, as a precaution, one should not sit there either, because sometimes removal occurs verbally, and sometimes it is caused by the awe of status and rank. For this reason, if anyone vacated a seat for Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhuma), he would still not sit there.
